Dog Treat Reviews

Single Ingredient Treats and Chews from Best Bully Sticks

Written by Rachael Sando

After a lot of up and downs over the past month, it seems like the weather may have finally settled on Spring. With weekend temps nearing 70° we were actually able to fire up the grill!

While all the humans had big smiles on their faces, it was easy to see that the dogs were a bit jealous of our feast…

Charlie hoping we drop some food from the grill!

It’s tough to look into those sad puppy dog eyes and try to explain why there are no burgers or hot dogs for them!

With our pups already drooling, we had an idea…

Our pals at Best Bully Sticks recently sent the boys a package of tasty treats to try out and share with our readers. Now would be a perfect time to give them a little feast of their own and make them feel included in the festivities!

Come see what grill master Charlie is cooking up!

About Best Bully Sticks

Founded in 2008, Best Bully Sticks is a manufacturer and online retailer of high quality, all-natural dog treats and chews.

BestBullySticks.com

They sell dozens of different products from bully sticks and jerky to antlers and bones. We first learned of Best Bully Sticks about a year ago, when the boys fell in love with their Kangaroo Jerky! When they recently offered to send over a sampling of single ingredient treats and chews we jumped at the chance.

Wondering what they sent?

Our special care package was packed with Rabbit Bon Bon treats, bully sticks, and cow hooves! Perfect to keep the dog’s occupied and in on our warm weather fun! Keep reading to see what our boys thought of each treat and chew…

Rabbit Bon Bons

We started things of with the rabbit bon bons thinking they would make for a perfect Hors d’oeuvre.

We have been dying to try them since they come so highly recommended from our friend Emma at MyGBGVLife. Emma and her sister Bailie are well known rabbit (wabbit) connoisseurs, so we knew they would be tasty.

Rabbit Bon Bons are small cylindrically shaped treats consisting of 100% wild caught rabbit. There are roughly 30 in every bag and each piece is 3/4″ in diameter by 1″ long. Since there are no preservatives it is recommended that they be stored in the refrigerator or freezer after opening.

The exterior of these treats feels almost like a casing while the insides are dense and crumbly. Although already a great size for a treat, they are also easy to break apart for repeated rewarding during training!

Both Harley and Charlie really seemed to enjoy the texture and flavor of these Rabbit Bon Bons. They have a slight odor that is not offensive to you, yet plenty enticing for the dogs.

Why MyDogLikes Best Bully Sticks Rabbit Bon Bon’s

Being huge fans of single ingredient dog treats, we are very excited to find a new option. Rabbit Bon Bon’s contain only wild rabbit and are completely hormone free. They are a great size for a snack but also the perfect dog training treat to add to our arsenal.

Next up were the Jumbo Bully Sticks, and boy do they mean JUMBO! These things are 12″ long and about 3/4″ in diameter. We thought that they would make for the perfect entree while the rest of us enjoyed our dinner.

As you would have probably guessed from their namesake, Best Bully Sticks has their Bully Stick act together. These are the toughest and longest lasting bully sticks we have ever tried. We actually took them away after 15-20 minutes since we didn’t want them to eat the entire thing in one sitting, and they each still had more than half a bully stick to go!

We have spoken at length about our love for bully sticks in the past so I will try to keep it short…

It was a sad day in our home when we learned about the dangers of rawhide. Ever since we have been experimenting with various natural dog chews hoping for an adequate replacement. Bully Sticks fit the bill since they are 100% digestible but also do a great job satisfying our dog’s urge to chew. The quality of these Bully Sticks in particular is second to none.

Best Bully Sticks Cow Hooves

Looking for something to occupy the dogs for a while longer we decided to let them give their new cow hooves a try. These hooves are sourced from free range grass fed cattle and come individually wrapped. This is a big plus as it keeps any odors contained within.

Hooves from Best Bully Sticks are thick, heavy duty and roughly 4-5″ in length. Our boys absolutely loved them and enjoyed gnawing on them for the rest of the evening. Harley even tried to sneak it into bed with him that night! Who knows what could happen to that precious goody if left unattended!

I would estimate that each hoof net 12+ hours of chew time!

Always Supervise

As with any dog chew, you will want to supervise while your dog is enjoying a cow hoof. They tend to be sharp and can lead to some bleeding of the gums, but don’t be alarmed. Light bleeding can be a sign that plaque was built up and is now being cleared. Heavy bleeding should of course be noted and the chew taken away temporarily.

Well loved (chewed) cow hooves

We haven’t had any issues with pieces breaking off of Best Bully Sticks cow hooves but keep an eye out just in case. You would not want your dog to swallow a large piece. Finally, we take them away and throw them out when the overall hoof has been worn to a size that could potentially be swallowed.

Be Prepared for the Smell!

One last thing you will want to keep be aware of is that hooves will start to smell as your dog chews them. The smell can be a bit overpowering and reminds me a bit of manure. As you might guess however, this only makes your dogs love them more!

Cow hooves make for great long lasting dog chews

Why MyDogLikes Best Bully Sticks Cow Hooves

While bones and antlers are extremely long lasting, they pose a serious risk of a shattered or broken tooth. Hooves come closer to that longevity than anything else, but they are softer and safer for the teeth and gums.

Plus, the dogs go nuts for them!

  • Awesome selection. We got a load of kangaroo when we ordered our wabbit bon bons too, and bully sticks for Katie since they are a fave of hers. We still have some hooves lying around, but Bailie really likes them so we may need to order some more. She chews them up fairly quickly.

  • Beauregard would LOVE the Bully Sticks or the Hooves. Thanks for the opportunity.
