MightyPaw – Dog Gear & Accessories for Active Dogs

Written by Rachael Sando

As you may have seen, the MyDogLikes crew returned home from a huge dog friendly road trip. We had an awesome time and explored some of the nation’s most famous parks and landmarks. Other than highlighting dog friendly travel destinations, one of the main goals of the trip was to help promote getting out and being active with your dogs. Over the next several weeks we are going to be highlighting some of the brands and products that make exploring with your dogs easier and safer – starting today with MightyPaw – a company focused on designing high quality, functional dog gear for active pups.

MightyPaw makes a wide variety of highly functional dog accessories like collars, leashes and harnesses.

About MightyPaw

MightyPaw is the brainchild of a husband and wife team; who, as fitness enthusiasts, were looking for a better way to incorporate their dog, Barley, into their exercise routines. Disappointed with what was currently on the market, they decided to create their own line of functional dog gear and accessories – so that Barley could comfortably join them on their adventures!

We first learned about MightyPaw a couple of months ago when they reached out to us as fellow Rochesterians. We are always excited to learn about and work with local businesses, so we jumped at the chance to test out some of their products. MightyPaw was kind enough to send us a variety of their collars, leashes and harnesses to try and share with our readers. (They are also sponsoring an exclusive giveaway for our readers so make sure to enter below!)

Hands Free Bungee Dog Leash

Anyone who has ever run with their dog knows that a standard leash does not lend itself to maintaining proper running form! Not only is your arm movement restricted by holding onto the leash, but unless your dog is constantly keeping a perfect tempo and distance, you can easily be pulled off balance.

Bungee Dog Leash for walking or running your dog hands-free!

MightyPaw’s Bungee dog leash is a hands free system for walking or running with your dog. The leash itself is made from a durable yet flexible material, giving it a built-in stretch or spring. This allows the leash to absorb the majority of the tugs and pulls that are encountered BEFORE reaching you, and pulling you off balance! MightyPaw’s bungee leash comes in a 3′ 0r 4′ length, with 16″ and 14″ of stretch respectively.

The bungee leash comes with and attaches to an adjustable waist belt, allowing you to have complete control over your dog, without having to hold onto anything. The waist belt is lightweight and contains a rotating D-ring to keep your dog on whichever side you prefer.

Our thoughts on the Mighty Paw Hands-Free Dog Leash

Our first impression of this leash was that it is clearly high quality. The material is tough and thick and looks like it can withstand a lot of abuse. We also really liked that the leash has reflective piping for that added touch of safety when running in low light.

It was very easy to adjust the waist belt and we were ready to head out for a test walk on no time.

Right away I was impressed at the level of shock absorbed when Charlie would reach the end of the leash. Not only was this nice for me, but him as well since he was pulled back gently instead of a suddenly like on a regular leash. After only a bit of walking I actually found that he was heeling better than normal due to the steady and slight adjustments made by the leash! This was a welcome surprise, and makes us even more excited to use the bungee leash in the future. We (Rach) haven’t  had the chance to test out the performance on a run yet, but we will make sure to add a comment when she does. Judging by how well it handles Charlie on our walks (and the hundreds of 5 star Amazon reviews) we have no reason to think it will be anything but spectacular!

If you are worried about getting tangled up with the leash – don’t! The D-ring is easy to slide around yourself while on the go should your dog decide to switch sides! Before using the waist belt, I was concerned that it would pull on my stomach and be uncomfortable or leave me off balance, but was so glad to see that I remained solid and sturdy in the face of little pulls and changes in speed and direction. I never felt any pressure on my stomach either!

MightyPaw Sport Dog Harness

If you are going to be adventuring with your dog, the Sport Dog Harness from MighyPaw is the perfect accessory for maximum control and comfort. It is constructed of a durable, weather-proof fabric with tough stitching and sturdy hardware.

MightyPaw's Sport Dog Harness is padded for a comfortable and flexible fit.

Features

  • Comfort – The chest and back portions of the sport dog harness are padded in order to provide a comfortable and non restrictive fit.
  • Chest & Back Leash Attachments – Is your dog a big puller? Do you typically have more control when they are on a chest harness? No worries – the MightyPaw Sport Harness provides both a back attachment and a front-chest option!
  • Lifting Handle – The back of the Sport Harness contains a thick and sturdy handle which can be used for ultimate control, or for lifting/ helping your dog up from the ground or out of the water.

What we thought of the MightyPaw Dog Harness

First thing we noticed is that this is a great looking harness. It has a different fit than most others that we have tried, and seems to give Charlie an excellent range of motion in his arms. With other harnesses that we have used, we have found abrasions under their arms after prolonged activity, but this was not the case with MightyPaw! It took a couple of minutes to get everything adjusted to his body, but that is only a one time deal. After sizing, there are quick release buckles on the sides to take it on and off in only seconds.

One thing to note – Take particular care in selecting the appropriate neck size for your harness. While the chest area is highly adjustable, the neck is not! Make sure to read the sizing guide here! Also, consider sizing up if your dog has a big barrel chest like Harley. Overall, we found the fit to be a little better for Charlie and would likely have sized up for Harley because of his needing a little more distance from neck to chest strap.

We love having the flexibility of leashing Charlie in the front or the back with this harness. As a pup, he would turn into a sled dog and pull tremendously whenever leashed on the back. For this reason he has been wearing a chest harness for the past 2 years. We actually tried out the back attachment of the MightPaw harness to see how he would do and we were very impressed! Perhaps our little man is growing up?!

Charlie seems completely comfortable wearing this harness, and I love that it is padded to prevent irritation during activity.  We also really love the back handle for the added control it provides and also for helping him out of the water when swimming. Sometimes Charlie is a little stinker about jumping into the car and we found that a little tug on the back handle also encourages him to leap up!

Why MyDogLikes MightyPaw Dog Gear & Accessories

We love any brand that promotes getting out and being active with your dog, but hold a special affection for MightyPaw. MightyPaw puts their mission into action with dog gear that begs to be used. Everything we have tested is tough, rugged and well made. They also perform great in outdoor activity just as designed. Extra little features like multiple connection points, a handle, sliding D-rings, reflective fabric, padding, etc, show that these products were made by people who really use them and know what it takes to be active AND comfortable with your dog. Not having the right gear should never be something that holds people back from being active with their dog, but having the right gear can make the experience that much more FUN and SAFE!

Still unsure? (Silly, I know). All MightyPaw products come with a 90 day money back guarantee, so if you are not satisfied for any reason just let let them know!

  • I would like to try the harness – we have one that works, but yours looks nicer!!

  • The leather leash look very sturdy. It looks better than the one I have now. I’d love to use it for all our walks.

  • I would like to have the MightyPaw Sport Dog Harness really for all of our walks because I could really use that handle sometimes to pull Milo back when he starts to lunge.

    • It is so helpful to have that handle on the back! We have used it for better control of Charlie several times.

  • I would definitely try the harness. I have 3 French Bulldogs that wear a harness and am always looking for something easy & comfortable

  • I haven’t found a harness yet that works well for Zev. He slips out of them so easy! Maybe we’ll have to try one since they have that nice money back guarantee.

  • The front and back hook for the leash is the best. For a stroll I would hook my Dakota to the front clip but for a hike where I don’t have to get her attention quickly. I would attach the leash to the back harness.

  • I would the the harness the mosts since we do have some nice hiking trails in Socal and of course the beach. Itvwould be great since Nala and Cody love to get dirty on our walks and the harness seems easy to clean.

  • The Hands Free Bungee Leash looks wonderful!! That would work great for walks without having to hold on to a leash!!

  • This looks like a fabulous brand! I especially love that hands free bungee leash – that would come in handy in so many places with Penny.

  • The leather leash looks really nice. Our dogs go everywhere with us, therapy visits, competing in dog sports, park time, etc, and we always have a houseful of dogs, so leather leashes are always a need.

  • We are having harness issues in our 2 dog house. I’ve yet to find a harness comfortable enough that can be left on our active dogs. And our border collie/husky has broken 2 $50 KY Explorer halters from the pet store before he turned one. I tried to order this but Amazon doesn’t deliver where I live. Does someone else carry these?

  • The bungee leash looks awesome!! It really looks like their products are designed with active dog owners in mind!! I really appreciate that, as I do miss this aspect in a lot of other brands!

  • That looks like good gear! Mom loves running hands free, it makes a huge difference. Our leash has better support for the human, but Bailie runs really well and doesn’t really need a bungie style leash. Everything sure does look durable too!

  • I have been wanting to try the Mighty Paw Hands-Free Dog Leash for awhile now. I have a cheap hands free leash that works ok, but I need an upgrade. We run literally all the time with our dogs. They run in races with us and are our main motivators to get out the door and pound the pavement

  • The harness looks great- if not for my sheepdog, my sons husky could use it! Thanks!

  • Id love to try the harness..looks very sturdy and well made..I would take my Sierra to the park for walks!!

  • I really like the looks of that harness! For training, I like harnesses that have both a chest clip and a back clip. But, most of the padded harnesses and sports harnesses only have a back clip. Thanks for the review.

  • I as Grandma would love to try the harness. We tried the bungees and they did not
    work for us.

  • The MightyPaw Sport Dog Harness appeals to us. Comfort is a big deal for my dogs and this harness has it. We could hike all day and not have to worry about chafing.

  • I would love to try the MightyPaw Sport Dog Harness! My dog loves to go swimming in the lake and this would be so perfect! Thanks for the chance!

  • Awesome giveaway! Thank you for ofering this giveaway to us! Fingers & paws crossed!

  • Like the Mightydog Harness, looks comfortable for our dog Ella and the ease of release.

  • I would absolutely love to try the awesome looking harness. We could really use it hiking as well as swimming and kayaking!!

  • This looks like high quality gear! I would love to try the hands free leaah, as I’d like to start running with my German Shepherd Lab mix.

  • All of these would be so nice to have, for any of us here. I especially like the bungee hands free leash. My ella is a “puller” and this would let her have a little room for herself. Thanks for introducing this line to me. Thank You!

  • Good looking products. Real nice of you to share them with your followers. I would use any for my dog Rocket and I to go walking.

  • I’d be interested in the harness. Not a fan of bungee leashes- have had bad experiences.

  • I like the MightyPaw Sport Dog Harness the handle on the top of the Harness would be great when maggie and I go to the dog park sometimes she don’t listen and this would help me get her out of any problems would come up.

  • the mighty paw seat belt. our little guy and girl get a little overly excited about car rides. we love taking them places, but it requires us to really have an extra pair of hands to keep us and them safe on the road

  • I like the sound of the harness, especially since it hooks in both the front and back! I also like the look of the hands free leash. I would probably use them for walks, but it would be super handy if for some reason I took up running, which I probably won’t since knee problems run in the family, and I have yet to have an interest in it, but still. ??

  • I have three rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds, and they could really use these harnesses and leashes. My dogs really pull on walks. I was given the chance to try a harness that had clips on both the back and the front (chest) area and it was great. I’d really like one like that for my dogs.

  • I love the harness myself…if a medium were available,I would have ordered it right then….I also like the leash…that would be so good walking on our country road.

  • All of the products look great! I’d love to try the Bungy Leash. I have a pit and he’s stronger than he realizes! Leashes don’t seem to last long with him because he likes to pull sometimes and it puts a lot of pressure on the leashes. Also I love to take him swimming and most collas start to fall apart after a few swims and walks so Mighty Paws is just what I’ve been looking for! Thanks for the great review and chance to win!

  • These harnesses look great! The quality looks like something I need for our Llewellin Setters! Bird dogs love to pull!!

  • Would love the bungee leash w/waist belt. My son occasionally runs with a very active 16 month old but Atticus always pulls my son. These look like great products. Would also like harness for camping and safety belt for when we go around town. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • We have six Portuguese Water Dogs who love the water. Your harness with the back handle would be great for them. We’ve occasionally had a too excited dog fall overboard and that handle comes in handy.

  • i would love the smart bell, if i could teach my girls to use it. i have tried the regular bells and they could not get the hang of it. they just go to the door when they have to potty, so i have to watch. i also love the long bungee leash with the waist belt and the double one for my 2 younger girls that almost look like twins.

  • I would like to try the harness, my dog Took is very thin I have had a hard time finding a harness that fits him.

  • I would like to try one of the harnesses. My dog is large and hard to handle some times. I think a harness would help with this.

  • I would like to try the harness. I think it would be most useful when we visit our friend’s cabin in the mountains. We keep him off leash there. But he stays right with us when we hike or go in the lake. The back handle on the harness would be the feature I think we would use. I like that it seems to be comfortable for our pup too.

  • I would like to try the MightyPaw Dog Harness. I have 2 dogs that always find a way to get their harness all messed up, so maybe this would help me.

  • I really like the hands free leash. I would love to try that when we are out for runs.

  • I love the leather leash and the harness, great for walking the dogs.

  • I really like this harness. I think my pup would walk much better with this than a regular leash.

  • Love the HandleX2 Dual Handle Dog Leash. Great for walking my shelties at the park.

  • I would love to try the hands free leash for walks and runs with my dog. I think it would make things a lot easier.

  • I want the safety belt so my dogs don’t crawl on me when I’m driving.

  • I would love to try the Harness, I know it would be a big help in walking our big Mastiff for sure.

  • I just started biking with my dog and the bungee leash and Harness would be great for that ????

  • The harness would be great for my dog Barney. We would use it when we go on hikes and camping.

  • The dog leashes look awesome. If I had a nice one like you have then I would be able to take my dog out more
