Dog Toy Reviews

Nylabone Double Action Chew, Souper

Written by Kevin Sando

Harley loves to chew.  Not in a destructive way, but in a soothing/calming manner.  It is simply not practical to fufill this constant desire with bones or rawhides.  We needed to find a more permanent solution.  As explained before, typical rubber chew toys are not an option. Whether its the scent, or something else that bothers him, he will not even grab one from your hands during play.

We had seen some of Nylabone’s products at the pet store in the past, and thought that they looked interesting.  They have a very wide variety of both edible and non edible chews toys, and after some deliberation we eventually settled on the Nylabone Double Action Chew Toy.

Product Description

This chew toy is bone shaped and made of a durable nylon.  Its dimensions are roughly 9.5″ x 3″ x 3.”  The center of the toy is covered in a green, natural rubber material that allows for comfortable carrying.  There are several sizes available to suit any type of dog.

Product Review

Harley thoroughly enjoyed this chew toy.  The material seems to be a perfect blend of toughness and forgiveness to provide an enjoyable chewing experience.  The large nubs on the bones ends are ideal for gnawing and Harley had a great time doing so.  The best part of this toy is the dental benefits that it provides. Portions of the bone will become raised during chewing, by design, in order to help clean your dogs teeth. These raised fragments massage your dogs gums, and help to control tartar.  The center material is also embedded with minty flavor which is always a good thing!

A word of warning – though this material is not harmful if ingested in small quantities, it is not advisable and thus should be discarded when it reaches the point where pieces larger than a grain of rice are coming off. While we found this toy to be very durable, I have heard reviews of dogs who were able to destroy it, so keep in mind your dogs chewing abilities and persistence when considering.

Also, watch where you step!  This toy can become very sharp after a bit of use.  While not a reason to forgo this product, I will tell you from experience that it does not feel good to step on this toy in bare feet!

Final Thoughts

We had our Nylabone Double Action Chew Toy for over a year before it was fairly worn out.  Well worth it in my opinion.  We have since bought a few more for friends who seem to really enjoy them as well.  Overall this product was a great solution for us, and a chew toy that I definitely recommend!  In fact, we will be buying a new one soon!
